Use of mulches

Mulch is a layer of nonliving material, which covers the surface of the soil surrounding a plant. Mulch can be organic material as pine bark, compost and woodchips or inorganic material as lave rock, limestone or similar materials.

It is best to use mulch whenever possible. A good amount of mulch conserves water by significantly reducing moisture evaporation from the soil. Mulch also reduces weed population, prevents soil compaction and keeps soil temperatures more moderate.
